Once you have put the time and manpower into creating an aesthetic and eye-pleasing newsletter, it’s important to do everything to help it reach your customers’ inboxes.  There are a few things you can do to make it possible so here goes…

On a regular basis, keep your email list well-managed and clear out incorrectly added email addresses or those that may be invalid. A lot of the time, email service providers and Internet service providers track bounce rates to identify serial spammers. So if your bounce rates, both hard and soft, are high, you’re treading on thin ice!

The first part of your email to get scanned for potential trouble is the subject line. Stay away from words that might be mistaken for spam.  Also, abnormal punctuation, such as all letters in upper case or a row of exclamation marks in succession, or other sentence construction that strays away from accepted norms can lead to trouble with spam filters. You would do well to track content in the body of your email too. Formatting and sentence construction play a key role in helping your high volume email marketing campaign succeed.

Take advantage of the free software that is available to check your email. With a variety of free software available for this purpose, you have a wide range of tools to help you run your email marketing campaign effectively. One of the most frequently used software is SPAMassassin.org. While this application gives you an idea of whether filters are likely to classify your email as spam, there are other more advanced options that not only rate, but also tell you where you should make changes. Using such software will enable you to push up delivery rates.

Another trick intelligent and large email marketers deploy is getting recipients to add their ‘From’ email address into their contact list. This automatically lends more credibility to the communication and, as a result, spikes up deliveries to inboxes. When folks add your email address to their address books, email services rate you higher up in the email pecking order, as it were. The result – better email deliveries.

While design and content are important, keep an eye out for the HTML code of your email. Spam filters are quick to pick errors in code, particular formatting trends and the utilization of any kinds of suspicious scripts. So if you’re code looks a bit clunky and clumsy, you might want to spend some time cleaning it up and setting it right. It seems pretty insignificant, but little details can sometimes go a long way in improving the efficacy of your email marketing campaign.

It’s important to make a plan for your campaign that includes tactics to deal with SPAM.  It is feasible with a bit of planning, so keep these points in mind!
