Four Crucial Customization Tips for Your Newsletter Template

A good, well designed newsletter template can deliver results that make it look as if you brought a professional design team onboard.  When using a template specifically made for clear, concise content delivery, you will benefit from an intuitive layout that helps you focus more on your marketing message and less on the complex aspects.  Because most templates are highly customizable, you also have the option to perform edits and tailor the layout to your preference.  If this is the road you decide to travel, keep the following customization tips in mind:

1. Incorporate Your Brand into the Template

It is not uncommon for a reader to subscribe to a variety of different newsletters.  Therefore, you want to make sure your brand is deeply incorporated so recipients can distinguish your newsletter from all the others they may receive.  This means customizing the template to include your company logo, website, and even the color scheme or design theme off your website if applicable.  Make sure your readers have an easy time associating your newsletter with your brand.  When the email arrives in their inbox, the reader should instantly recognize your brand before they even open it.

2. Maintain an Optimal Design

You can add substantial visual appeal to your newsletter template by designing it with HTML.  Don’t abuse this luxury as you want to ensure it looks like a newsletter rather than a content-rich web page.  You can make sure this happens by keeping your template design simple.  Take advantage of headings and subheadings to provide the appropriate breaks where needed.  Although HTML can be pleasing to the eye, it is important to keep your content crystal clear and impacting.  Too much customization can make your message come off as confusing and ineffective.

3. Incorporate Links Where Necessary

If you are referring to specific features or services in your marketing campaign, it is always a good rule of thumb to insert links into your template so readers understand their purpose.  If your message really hits home, then readers will more than likely click the links to discover what you have to offer.  The point here is that many recipients may not have the time to surf your website and try to figure out what you are trying to get across.  By incorporating links into the template, you can easily clarify and validate the information in your newsletter.

4. Keep Advertising to a Minimum

Having the ability to customize a newsletter template means you can go all out when it comes to marketing your products or services.  However, there are several reasons why you may want to keep this to the bare minium.  The fact that the reader subscribed to your newsletter shows that they already have an interest in your offerings.  Even though they agreed to give your marketing campaign a shot, it probably is not a good idea to overload their inbox with sales pitches.  When incorporating your advertising content in the newsletter template, try to make sure it does not distract or overwhelm the reader in anyway.  No marketing campaign should centered around pressing sales pitches alone.
